Always have a positive attitude, smile and show enthusiasm. A recruiter wants to see that you are dedicated to finding and keeping a job and that you're excited to work for their company.
Dress for success!!! (What to Wear)
Your first impression is very important. Recruiters want to see professionalism. You should be dressed for an interview; always wear business attire. (Excluding Drivers Job Fairs)
For example:
Men: Your best suit, tie and shoes.
Women: Your best Jacket with matching pants or skirt and shoes.
Be Prepared (What to Bring)
You should bring plenty of resumes! You will be handing these resumes directly to the hiring managers from each company. You can also bring cover letters if you wish. You don't need to give each a company a resume in a presentation folder. If you have a two or more page resume, make sure you put your name and phone number on BOTH pages and staple them together. Bring all of your resumes in one folder or briefcase and be organized. Pens, extra paper, business cards and examples of previous work you have done are always helpful.
How Long Should You Spend at the Job Fair
You can spend as little or as long as you want at the show. In one hour you should be able to speak with at least ten companies. It's always best to arrive at the event as early as you can manage to meet with prospective employers.
What To Do at the Job Fair
Walk up to each company, smile, introduce yourself, shake their hand, give them a resume and tell them about yourself. These people want to hear you talk and see if you can listen as well. Tell them about your successes at your current and previous jobs; describe your job duties and how you can help them. Explain your interest in the company you are talking to. Remember, you're selling yourself. The recruiter wants to hear why their company can't be without you and the skills you can provide! |
